Welcome to the Indus International MUN 2011

Dear delegates and respected faculty advisors,

It is my distinct pleasure to invite you and your delegation to the inaugural Indus International Model United Nations 2011! This conference will take place from Friday, September 23 to Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Bangalore, India.

Ever since the 1920s, students around the world have used a platform similar to Model United Nations as an engaging forum, discussing the most pressing international issues, preparing and debating solutions to the complex problems that plague today’s global community, and thus developing expertise in public speaking, writing and research.

In September 2011, the students of Indus International School Bangalore, having attended conferences across the country; and indeed the world, have decided to bring our experience to bear and to host a student-driven conference for students.

“Creating Leaders of Tomorrow” is one of our school’s aims, but why should we limit this to our school? The Indus International Model United Nations will further our mission, by bringing international relations and leadership experience not only to our students, but to those of a multitude of other schools as well.

For the first session of the Indus International Model United Nations we have chosen four “traditional” committees: the General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, the Economic and Social Council and the Security Council. Furthermore, we have a simulation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, recognising that body’s intriguing role in world affairs today. Most exciting however, is our Future Security Council 2025, where delegates will travel to a fascinating and constantly changing geo-political reality in the future.

Of course MUN isn’t just about the conference, it is about meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. Delegates are encouraged to interact with one another after committee sessions, and events such as the Delegate Dance provide a perfect platform for this interaction.

Please feel free to email me at secgen@indusmun.org if you are considering attending, and I will make sure to provide you with further details. In addition, be sure to keep checking our website for updates!

On behalf of all the Indus International MUN Secretariat and staff, I hope to see you in Bangalore in September!

Regards,

Rahul S. Bhide
Secretary-General
